    Role Description

    Role Purpose

    ►  Conducting research with a focus on curriculum development, teacher training and assessment as well as assessment validation to support an evolving system of education

    ►  Undertaking administrative, research and/or teacher development activities to support achievement of The Royal Academy’s vision and philosophy

    ►  Demonstrating excellent communication skills and being comfortable in using technology for communication, collaboration and data analysis.

    ►  Promoting the highest standard of conduct, ethical principles, and integrity in action and behaviour.

    Primary Responsibilities

    ►  Develop and validate the Academy’s curriculum, teacher development programme(s) and assessment framework; contribute towards enriching them further by working collaboratively with other members of the Educational Research Centre as well as teacher educators and teachers

    ►  Keep oneself updated on new developments and research in pedagogy, curriculum, and other relevant aspects of teaching and learning

    ►  Undertake action research projects at The Royal Academy and associated institutions, and engage with the research/teaching community to share results and learnings; and solicit input on challenges faced and areas of improvement

    ►  Engage effectively with learners in creating a stimulating learning environment

    ►  Maintain detailed pastoral and academic records of students as well as records on the professional conduct & growth of teachers

    ►  Undertake responsibilities for organising and participating in various events at The Royal Academy, when deemed logistically possible

    ►  Actively participate in team meetings, and tangibly contribute to building expertise in curriculum development, assessment and assessment validation

    ► : Collaborate with other researchers to support curriculum development and achievement in line with The Royal Academy’s vision

    ►  Proactively pursue and participate in opportunities for enhancing own professional development through involvement in research/teacher development activities, meetings and self-reflection

    Role Requirements

    Desired Qualifications & Experience

    Master’s Degree in any one of the following areas or a related field:

    • Education/ Teaching-Learning
    • Psychology
    • Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or a related field)
    • Mathematics
    • English Language
    • Computer Science/ ICT
    • Statistics and Quantitative/ Data Analysis

    Prior work experience is not necessary

    • Action research/ research in the school education sector, especially in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment

    Those with a background in the Sciences, English language and/or Mathematics:

    • Subject expertise that can contribute towards the development of educational processes by equipping learners with a deeper understanding of domain knowledge

    Those with a background in Computer Science/ICT and/or Statistics and Quantitative/ Data Analysis:

    • Development of artificial intelligence systems, awareness of coding/ programming/ software development
    • Data analytics for quantitative and qualitative data

    Role Purpose

    Responsible for planning, organising, and delivering instructional programmes in his/her area of expertise to support the development of students in a stimulating learning environment

    Responsible for undertaking administrative, pastoral, research, and/or teacher development activities, to support achievement of the Academy's vision and philosophy

    Primary Responsibilities

    Academic Responsibilities

    Implement the Academy's curriculum, and contribute towards enriching it further by working collaboratively with other teachers and members of Teacher Development Centre and Educational Research Centre.

    Keep oneself updated on new developments and research in pedagogy, curriculum, and other relevant aspects of teaching with the objective of enhancing professional learning

    Undertake action research projects at the Academy, and engage with the teacher community to share results and learnings; and solicit input on challenges faced and areas of improvement.

    Teaching Responsibilities

    Plan and design learning experiences according to the needs of the learners and design differentiated experiences for the learners based on the understanding of individual learner

    Provide detailed and continuous feedback that focuses on the progress of individual learner with clear indicators of success and progress plan

    Create new knowledge along with the learners, encouraging and motivating learners to be more innovative

    Work collaboratively with other teachers and teacher educators on the preparation and development of teaching and learning that align with the philosophy of the Academy

    Plan, prepare for, and support students in their learning, in line with the Academy's curriculum

    Engage effectively with students in creating a stimulating learning environment

    Assign work to students, provide written/oral assessments, and communicate feedback to enable learning and improvement

    Discuss feedback with students and parents.

    Administrative Responsibilities

    Maintain detailed pastoral and academic records of students

    Undertake responsibilities for organising and participating in various events at the Academy

    Participate in departmental and team meetings to discuss progress of students.

    Pastoral Care

    Promote the general well-being of individual/groups of students assigned to him/her

    Undertake pastoral duties, such as of a House Master/Mistress, Resident Tutor/Mentor, and Student Counsellor to guide and support students on an individual basis regarding academic and personal difficulties

    Be responsible for the safety of students at the Academy

    Engage with parents at appropriate intervals, for understanding their perspective, communicating on various aspects of student development, and encouraging their involvement and contribution at the Academy.

    Professional Development

    Actively participate in departmental meetings, and tangibly contribute to building subject area expertise in the relevant department

    Collaborate with other teachers to support student development and achievement in line with the Academy's vision

    Proactively pursue and participate in opportunities for enhancing own professional development through involvement in research/teacher development activities, sharing meetings and self-reflection.

    English Teacher

    Desired Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelors degree/Masters in Education with English as a specialized subject (B-ed and M-ed in English)
    • Masters of Education (Med) in TESOL
    • Masters of Arts (MA) in Teaching in ESL

    Candidate should be able to plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language learning experiences that meet the the standards and aligns with the academy's philosophy and learning framework

    Candidate should have good knowledge of the domain and pedagogical skills to teach the English language to second language learners as well as literature

    Candidate should have in-depth knowledge of the English language and its progression to teach classes VII to XII

    Candidate should have a genuine interest in teaching the English language and be passionate about the language

    Dzongkha Teacher

    Desired Qualifications and Experience

    Bachelors degree/Masters in Education with Dzongkha/Buddhist philosophy as a specialized subject (B-ed and M-ed in Dzongkha and Buddhist philosophy)

    Candidate should be able to plan, prepare and deliver high quality of Dzongkha language learning experiences that meet the standards, aligns with the academy's philosophy and learning framework

    Candidate should have good knowledge of the domain and pedagogical skills to teach the Dzongkha language to second language learners as well as literature

    Candidate should have an in-depth knowledge of the Dzongkha language, Buddhist philosophy, and Bhutanese culture and traditions to teach classes VII to XII

    Candidate should have a genuine interest in teaching the Dzongkha language and be passionate about the language

    Mathematics Teacher

    Desired Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelors degree/Masters in Mathematics
    • Bachelors degree/Masters in Education with Mathematics as a specialized subject

    Candidate should be able to link Mathematical concepts to real life situations

    Candidate should have a good philosophical knowledge of Mathematics

    Candidate should have a genuine interest in teaching Mathematics

    Aesthetic Teacher

    Desired Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelors degree/Masters in Art/Design (Creative Arts)
    • Bachelors degree/Masters in Music/ Dance/ Drama/ Theatre (Performing Arts)

    Specific Attributes, Competencies and Areas of Expertise/ Specialisation

      Creative Arts:
    • Candidate should have a working knowledge of the 13 traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts (Zorig Chusum)
    • Preferably, the candidate should have undergone a Zorig Chusum course

      Performing Arts:
    • Candidate should have the skills to teach students how to play different musical instruments
    • Preferably, the candidate should be able to teach Dzongkha songs/ dances

    Computer Science Teacher
