Celebrating the Birth Anniversary of The Druk Gyaltsuen

On the 4th of June, in celebration of the birth anniversary of Her Majesty the Druk Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, the students and teachers of The Royal Academy organized a very special program. The joyous occasion started off with a lunch taken in traditional Bhutanese fashion, making use of tora (white cloth piece for taking rice) and phob (wooden cup for various curries).

After everyone had finished relishing the delicious fare, there was a lot of excitement for the post-lunch program amongst the students as they rushed to get their costumes and props. The program consisted of 10 acts performed by the students, including dances that they choreographed themselves, poems and songs they wrote, and Dzongkha and English speeches to mark the very auspicious occasion on the birth of our beloved Gyaltsuen.

The program culminated with a student vs. teacher football match, which saw the two teams come away in a 3-3 draw after an extremely ambitious effort on the part of both teams.

We, at The Royal Academy, join the nation in wishing Her Majesty a very Happy Birthday!
